CASE STUDY
Nationwide Farmer Thinkers Group
Doing what she loves: Facilitation, working with farmers, connecting people, thinking outside the box, thinking about the future of farming, researching social change.
Some Sheep & Beef farmers, spread across New Zealand, were looking for a challenge to their thinking and practice. “What can I do differently? Instead of talking with farmers in my area, how can I learn with other farmers across New Zealand?
Heather’s facilitation of the Nationwide Farmer Thinkers Group is an example of fostering social change through practice, research and learning. Her facilitation enables these forward-thinking sheep & beef farmers to connect with international marketers, scientists, rural professionals, business people and government staff. Using their networks, these farmers then share what they learn with other farmers in their rural communities. Discussions like these, are enabling a change in thinking and understanding at all levels; seeing the world from others’ perspectives; and contributing to a change in practice.
Heather feels privileged to work with this dynamic and inspirational group of farmers, and the many organisations and individuals who continue to support the group on their journey of understanding and positive change.
